Kenya Entry Requirements

As of January 2024, Kenya has implemented a visa-free policy for all foreign nationals for tourism or business travel stays up to 90 days. However, travelers must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

All visitors, including infants and children, must have an eTA in advance of travel to Kenya. Local authorities recommend applying at least 2 weeks before departure.

Travelers holding a valid Kenya permit can continue to use it until it expires.

The eTA is typically valid for a single entry into Kenya but may allow for multiple entries if you visit Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda without visiting any other country, and your eTA hasn’t expired (90 days from issuance).

US citizens can apply for a multiple-entry eTA valid for 5 years. If you are just transiting in Kenya, arriving and leaving on the same flight ticket, and not leaving the airport, you will not be required to apply for an ETA.

Passport Validity and Required Documents

Passports must expire at least 6 months after the date of arrival. They must also have at least two blank pages. Passport cards cannot be used. In case of required documents, you need to have the following:

  • Valid Passport
  • Recent Passport Picture
  • Contact Details (home address, telephone number, and email)
  • Travel Information (arrival flight number and date of departure, especially for connecting flights)
  • Proof of Accommodation (hotel booking confirmation; if staying with friends, a letter of invitation is accepted)

Health Requirements

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you come from a country with a risk of transmission of yellow fever.

Check the WHO website for an updated list of countries. If you have flu-like symptoms upon arrival, you may need to take one or more tests at your own expense.
